What do we do?
We are an open, inclusive and welcoming group of individuals from the greater Colchester area with an interest in bringing about a fairer society by promoting logic, science and equality and removing the influence of religion on areas not pertaining to individual worship, such as in education, and local and national politics.
As well as campaigning locally on humanist issues, we have a lively monthly discussion group (meeting in person when conditions allow) covering topical and philosophical issues, a regular guest speaker programme and an active social calendar (currently on hold due to Coronavirus restrictions).
The skills and activities of our group are diverse, from highly trained celebrants - able to carry out humanist weddings, naming ceremonies and funerals - to school speakers, and people with only casual interest in the subject.
We offer a range of services and educational programmes for our members as well as engaging with other groups who share our values.
Our aim is to provide a safe, comfortable space for members to learn more about humanism and themselves, as well as build friendships with like-minded individuals. For more information about our current activities, please visit our Facebook and Meetup pages, or to find out more about humanism, please visit the Humanists UK website.
