Colchester is home to a garrison with a capacity for approximately 4,000 military personnel. Defence Humanists brings together service personnel, veterans, Ministry of Defence staff, and their families to represent the interests of the non-religious in the armed forces.
Colchester is home to the University of Essex, which has its own thriving humanist group.
For over 40 years, LGBT Humanists has promoted humanism as a rational, naturalistic worldview that trusts the scientific method as the most reliable route to truth and encourages a moral and ethical life based on logic, reason and compassion. They campaign for equality and diversity, particularly relating to sexual orientation and identity – both in the UK and internationally.
Faith to Faithless is Humanists UK’s support programme for so-called ‘apostates’ and those who leave high-control religions.
The service is led by apostates themselves, who have knowledge and experiences of apostate communities facing serious and systemic issues.
